Ready. Set. Spin! Greenwich Hospital Freedom Riders support cancer care

closer to free
YMCA spin instructor led staff through spin class to raise money for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich.

Under near perfect weather conditions, the Greenwich Hospital Freedom Riders took part in the Spin in the Garden to support Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich as part of Yale New Haven Health’s 14th annual Closer to Free event.

The 13 riders pedaled spin bikes – donated by the YMCA of Greenwich – in the hospital’s community garden. A YMCA spin instructor donated her time to lead participants through two 30-minute spin classes.

“The YMCA of Greenwich is honored to support the Spin in the Garden and Greenwich Hospital in their efforts to enhance cancer care in our community,” said Matthew Skaarup, CEO of the YMCA of Greenwich. “We are grateful for our long-standing partnership with Greenwich Hospital and our shared commitment to health and wellness. Through initiatives like Spin in the Garden and our LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, we are proud to work together to support cancer survivors and promote well-being for all.”

Kristina Capretti, RN, DNP, director of Patient Services for Smilow Greenwich, thanked the riders for supporting cancer care services. All funds raised from Spin in the Garden directly support Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich and its $10,000 fundraising goal.

“Thanks to people like you we can continue to provide much-needed services to our patients, whether it’s treatment, social work, rehabilitation and more,” said Capretti.
