Greenwich Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) had 27,804 visitors in 2023. That’s roughly 76 patients per day. “It’s never boring,” says Carlos Charles, RN. As a nurse on the unit, Charles and his colleagues treat people of all ages. “From a seven-day-old to a seventy-year-old,” is how he put it. Seeing patients across the life span has prepared Charles for any case that comes his way.

It is my great privilege to deliver my final Health Extensions message as president of Greenwich Hospital. It has been an honor to lead and to work in collaboration
with extraordinary men and women dedicated to caring for those who trust us with their healthcare needs.
Dr. Shah serves as Greenwich Hospital’s associate medical director for its hospitalist program. Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in the care of patients who are in the hospital. They are board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and treat a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions, including sepsis, which affects 1.7 million people a year.
