Christal Rodenhiser, RN, specialty resource nurse, Operating Room, was preparing her patient for surgery when she noticed a warning light on the operating table. She stopped the line and directed the provider to hold off on administering anesthesia. The perioperative team replaced the table and the patient’s procedure proceeded safely. An investigation showed an electrical fault in the table requiring repair. Rodenhiser prevented a potential intraoperative safety event and surgical fire.
Enkela Dibra, tech specialist, Ultrasound, was starting her shift and received a hand-off report about an infant admitted to the Emergency Department with persistent vomiting. While reviewing imaging results and information about the patient’s condition, Dibra grew concerned. Understanding that the ordered exam is technically challenging, Dibra raised her concerns with the care team and additional imaging was ordered. The repeat ultrasound showed a potentially life-threatening condition requiring surgery.
