Paul DiDominic, RN, Milford Campus Intensive Care Unit (ICU), won the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for his dedication to patient-centered care, including making Super Bowl Sunday extra super for one patient. Noticing that one of his patients seemed down, DiDominic learned he was upset because he couldn’t be home with his family enjoying the Super Bowl. After checking with the patient’s provider, DiDominic ordered special Super Bowl-style food and put the game on in the patient’s room. DiDominic’s DAISY Award nominator wrote that he spends every shift putting patients first, as he did on Super Bowl Sunday. Award nominations can come from patients, family members, physicians, other clinicians and staff who observe a nurse providing extraordinarily compassionate care.
