Overview

Patient care in Greenwich Hospital’s adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) involves individual treatment plans aimed at helping each patient maximize personal goals for better health.

  • Mood & Anxiety IOP is group therapy that provides services to adults who benefit from the structure of an intensive clinical program but do not require inpatient care. These patients have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Anxiety Disorders.
  • Co-Occurring Program was implemented to treat patients with the same conditions as the IOP, but who also have a substance-use disorder.

Approaches to Treatment

The IOP and Co-occurring Program treat patients ages 18 and older. Patients may have been diagnosed with any number of conditions including anxiety disorders like panic disorder, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Mood Disorders like Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, and personality disorders.

Approaches to treatment in both programs include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Holistic Therapy focused groups. The co-occurring program includes groups such as Relapse Prevention and Identifying Triggers to Substance Abuse. These groups give patients new skills to cope with and/or decrease their symptoms.

Patients, however, have the most important role in their own treatment plans, helping to set goals and identify personal strengths that will lead them through treatment and into recovery. Graduates of our programs report using the skills they learned years later and rely on these skills to get them through difficult times.

Our licensed clinicians offer individualized treatment plans, and we are committed to providing our patients with excellent evidence-based care. Patients are provided psychiatric medication management with board certified psychiatric professionals including psychiatrists and advanced practice registered nurses.

Program sessions are available 3 days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 203-863-4673 for more information and times.

Structure & Skills Development

Most patients who participate in the IOP and Co-occurring Program are currently in outpatient treatment or have recently completed rehab but desire more instruction and practice of coping skills. In addition, they may have recently completed inpatient treatment and would benefit from the structure and skills development along with medication management and careful diagnostic evaluation.

Referrals and Insurance

Psychiatry and Behavioral Health referrals are accepted from psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, and inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. Self-referrals are also accepted.

We are participating providers for most insurance carriers. However, it is always recommended that patients check with their health care insurance company on the details of their behavioral health policy coverage.
