Greenwich Hospital provides highly skilled and compassionate psychiatry and behavioral health care for a variety of conditions in adults. Ambulatory Psychiatry and Behavioral Health offers six different programs of treatment for individuals and families. These include:
Greenwich Hospital Psychiatry and Behavioral Health emphasizes the individual, creating a therapeutic environment based on the individual’s clinical needs and presenting issues. Our interdisciplinary team develops a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan for each patient. The patient has the most important role in her/his own treatment plan, helping set goals and identifying personal strengths that will lead her/him through treatment and into recovery. Throughout the treatment process, patients participate in a consistent program where the treatment team evaluates each patient’s progress toward their goals at each session.
We believe that successful outcomes are measured by the ability to withstand the tests of time. Our ambulatory psychiatric programs provide services that not only help patients adapt to the challenges they currently face but help them thrive and maintain health through all the seasons of life. Whether through IOP or structured OP services, the patient's needs, both emotional and physiological, must be fully met for progress to be realized.
Greenwich Hospital believes that an integrated, holistic treatment program, in combination with the appropriate social supports, can help individuals and their families recover from mental health and addiction problems.
Treatment at Greenwich Hospital’s Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Program is grounded in the following principles:
Psychiatry and Behavioral Health referrals are accepted from psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, and inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. Self-referrals are also accepted.
We are participating providers for most insurance carriers. However, it is always recommended that patients check with their health care insurance company on the details of their behavioral health policy coverage.
The Greenwich Hospital Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a group therapy-based program for patients ages 13–17. Our IOP provides a higher level of care than traditional once-a-week individual therapy but is less intensive than inpatient hospitalization.
Patient care in Greenwich Hospital’s adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) involves individual treatment plans aimed at helping each patient maximize personal goals for better health.
Co-Occurring Program was implemented to treat patients with the same conditions as the IOP, but who also have a substance-use disorder.
Interventional Psychiatric Services (IPS) at Greenwich Hospital combines clinical and research advances of the past two decades, offering hope to patients and their families. Interventional psychiatry is an emerging subspecialty that uses neuro-technologies to identify and treat brain conditions that contribute to psychiatric disorders.
The Behavioral Health Clinic provides psychiatric consultations and treatment for individuals who do not have adequate medical insurance. For eligibility questions, call 203-863-3316.
The Department of Psychiatry’s board-certified psychiatrists and staff treat a wide range of mental health issues using psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of the two. Services are available for all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults and seniors.
The psychiatric staff are experienced in certain therapeutic treatments including:
Treatment may be provided at the hospital or at the doctor’s office. Emphasis is placed on privacy and confidentiality.

In addition, some are involved in teaching and research, and lecture on their specialties nationally and internationally.
