Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized type of physical therapy that focuses on symptoms related to pelvic floor dysfunction and your overall pelvic health. The outpatient physical therapy team at Greenwich Hospital offers this specialty to both men and women and children. Our physical therapists will complete a thorough evaluation and develop an individualized treatment plan to address each patient’s unique challenges and goals.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support the abdominal and pelvic organs. These muscles help to control and support urination, bowel movements, sexual activity, pregnancy and childbirth.
Patients will have a functional mobility assessment and an external examination, including an assessment of the spine, sacroiliac joints, pelvis, coccyx and muscles surrounding the core, back and pelvic regions. If needed, an internal examination will also be performed of the pelvic floor muscles for tone, pain, tenderness, voluntary control, etc.
Our therapists are committed to creating an individualized treatment plan to not only alleviate your symptoms, but to instruct you on how to manage your symptoms through various techniques and a home exercise program. We value patient education throughout every aspect of your recovery.
If you have any questions concerning a specific diagnosis or symptom, please inquire when booking your evaluation.
Every patient goes through changes throughout their life that may impact their health. We can be proactive about these changes by staying up to date with important appointments and screenings.
