In addition to board-certified Yale Medicine neonatologists, the specialized newborn care team at Greenwich Hospital consists of nurses, neonatal advanced practice providers, clinical nurse specialists, a board-certified breast-feeding medicine specialist, respiratory care practitioners, social workers, dietitians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and lactation specialists in the unit to provide round-the-clock care. Our lactation specialists provide breastfeeding mothers lactation support seven days a week.
Yale Medicine pediatric specialists from Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital are available for inpatient consults and outpatient follow-up visits when appropriate. These pediatric specialties include gastroenterology, cardiology, urology, ear, nose and throat (ENT), endocrinology, and surgery, to name a few.
The Level III NICU at Greenwich Hospital provides inpatient intensive care, consultative support for critically ill newborns in Connecticut and beyond. The expert medical team are specialists in the care of critically ill newborns.
The skylit unit is located next to the Maternity, and Labor and Delivery units. Our tiniest patients are monitored 24 hours a day by Yale Medicine neonatologists, advanced practice providers and specially trained nurses. The NICU contains the most sophisticated and up-to-date equipment to treat babies who need this specialized care.
Our team is focused on providing family-centered care, which means parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate in their child’s daily medical discussions. Family-centered care recognizes and includes parents and caregivers as an integral part in the care our patients receive. Your questions and thoughts on your baby’s care are valuable to us.
Our child life specialist is available to help parents, caregivers and siblings cope with a baby’s stay which may be difficult. Our staff celebrates each small victory with families during their baby’s stay in the NICU, such as, first time baby has bath, was held, and ultimately has a graduation ceremony at discharge.
Having an infant in the NICU can be one of the most difficult times in a family’s life. The transition from NICU to home can be even more stressful for a family regardless of the length of their baby’s hospital stay. Our NICU to Home Program provides family-centered, post-discharge medical and breast-feeding support to all NICU infants and their families as they transition from the hospital to home.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit GRAD (Great Results After Discharge) Program is a follow-up program designed specifically for infants at higher risk for medical or developmental difficulties due to conditions that arise in the newborn period that required advanced care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
