Preparing for bariatric (weight loss) surgery and managing life after it can be challenging. We help patients navigate the challenges associated with pre- and post-surgical life. The National Institutes of Health, American College of Surgeons, and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommend that surgery be performed at a center that has a multidisciplinary team of experts for follow-up care. Our registered dietitians and clinical psychologists coordinate care with your bariatric surgeons and other healthcare providers to improve your success before, during, and following surgery.
Bariatric surgery support services offered here at the Center for Behavioral and Nutritional Health are based on scientifically supported strategies for weight loss and maintenance. We offer services to patients who have experienced:
Pre-surgical psychological and nutritional evaluations – We perform comprehensive, insurance-required evaluations prior to gaining clearance to undergo surgery.
Pre-surgical nutritional counseling and behavioral therapy – We offer the necessary pre-surgical services to help patients prepare for surgery and life afterwards.
Post-surgical nutritional counseling and behavioral therapy – You may be encouraged by your surgeon to return for nutritional counseling to improve post-surgical outcomes. You may also meet with a psychologist one-on-one to learn how to best manage your post-surgical eating patterns and overall lifestyle, or receive support as you go through the drastic changes that follow surgery.
Post-surgical Comprehensive Weight Loss Program (CWLP) – For post-surgical patients, we offer a program combining behavioral therapy and nutritional counseling that incorporates strategies for weight loss and maintenance. Program participants work with a clinical psychologist and registered dietitian in a group setting. Your treatment is tailored to address your particular obstacles and priorities. We offer services to patients who have experienced:
Many insurance plans cover behavioral therapy and nutritional counseling. While insurance plans vary, we help our patients determine the extent of their coverage. We also provide our service codes so participants can determine coverage and responsibilities (e.g. co-payments, deductibles). Greenwich Hospital will bill the managed care provider for all covered services.
