8/26/2011 — Yale New Haven Hospital has begun preparation for the expected weekend arrival of Hurricane Irene. With weather forecasters predicting Irene to affect Connecticut on Sunday, the hospital has implemented emergency preparedness plans in case the storm disrupts its normal operations.
The hospital has alerted its staff to prepare their families and homes for possible effects of the storm by stocking up on emergency water, food and power supplies. The hospital has further advised its staff to remain on alert and track weather developments in case they are needed under emergency conditions related to the storm.
Yale New Haven is also working in conjunction with its health system affiliates — Bridgeport Hospital and Greenwich Hospital — to ensure each hospital has the necessary inventory of medical supplies, water, food and fuel.
