Greenwich Hospital began the New Year with a new tradition: Every baby born at the hospital will go home with a copy of Nancy Tillman’s “On the Night You Were Born” as part of the “My First Book” program.
“Studies show reading can foster bonding between parents and their children,” said Kathleen Carley-Spanier, RN, director of Community Health at Greenwich Hospital, the hospital’s outreach arm. “It’s also a wonderful way to promote literacy. It’s never too early to start reading to your kids!”
Each book has a label stating: “I got my first book at Greenwich Hospital.” Spanish-speaking families will receive “La Noche En Que Tu Naciste.”
Last year, a record 2,814 births took place at Greenwich Hospital, making it the region’s destination maternity hospital for Connecticut and New York residents. Greenwich Hospital had the fourth highest birth numbers in Connecticut in fiscal year 2015.
