Greenwich Hospital Celebrates Nursing Excellence

Wednesday, May 10, 2017

Greenwich, CT (May 10, 2017) – As part of its National Nurses Week celebration, Greenwich Hospital honored two of its top nurses for their commitment to patient care during its annual Ceremony for Excellence in Nursing. In addition, the nursing staff honored a physician and pharmacist.

Marie Trovato, RN, received the prestigious Helen Meehan Award for Excellence in Nursing, given each year to a nurse who demonstrates excellence in nursing practice, teaching and leadership. Trovato, who lives in Mahopac, NY, cares for the hospital’s sickest patients in the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She is a mentor to new nurses and an educator known for encouraging all nurses to continue learning and growing in their profession.

Jaclyn Licare, RN, was the recipient of Greenwich Hospital’s first Daisy Award, which recognizes extraordinary nurses who make a difference in the lives of the people they care for every day. A nurse for more than a decade, Licare of Harrison, NY was nominated for the award by Maria Rivas, who credits the nurse for helping her overcome a medical crisis to give birth to a healthy baby girl, Daniela. Norman Roth, Greenwich Hospital president and chief executive officer, hosted the celebration presiding over two additional awards.

Cardiologist Sasanka Jayasuriya, MD, received the Physician Partner in Care Award. Known for her “great energy” and teaching skills, Dr. Jayasuriya of Greenwich has been instrumental in saving the lives of many community residents.

Hamden resident Eric Huang, PharmD, a clinical pharmacist, received the Partner in Care Award for exceeding standards of excellence for patient safety and quality.

Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services at Greenwich Hospital, congratulated all the nominees. “Your contributions to the health and wellbeing of our patients are paramount,” she said to the audience of more than 100 staff members.
