Electives in all subspecialties are available at Greenwich Hospital and for PGY II/III at Yale New Haven Hospital. A $500 per two-week block travel stipend to Yale is provided. Residents can apply for international electives through the Yale Johnson & Johnson International Health Program and in areas other than Internal Medicine as approved by the Program Director.
Residents are expected to perform procedures on their patients (including arthrocentesis, paracenteses, lumbar punctures, thoracenteses and central line placement) under the supervision of attending physicians, senior residents and during simulation. To create these procedure opportunities, electives are offered in procedure-heavy specialties including ICU, interventional radiology, orthopedic surgery and rheumatology..
Formal written evaluations are completed by teaching attendings each rotation and are visible to residents via MedHub website. Resident evaluations of attending physicians are delivered to attending physicians in batches every few months to preserve anonymity of the residents providing the evaluation. Periodic reviews and formal feedback are given to both residents and attending physicians are provided by the Program Director. Continuous, informal evaluation and feedback are provided from faculty and fellow residents.
Medical students from New York Medical College in addition to PA students from Yale also train at Greenwich Hospital.
